Thomas is interested the relationship between text and textile, particularly exploring cloth to share community and spiritual stories. Principally expressed in the design of distinctive vestments for Christian worship, Thomas also creates for individual spiritual exploration and meditation.
He shares his experience of cloth through consultations, workshops and community art projects. He is co-led (with Sheila Wex) the creation of 26 indigo-dyed quilts for the parish Hall of Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver. Click here to link to the project website.
In 2016 he created the Prayers of the Church Project – a 230 panel community art project that connects hand-work with prayer.
Significant commissions include Christ Church Cathedral, the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund, St. Paul’s Cathedral Regina and Church of the Redeemer Toronto. In 2017 he organized the exhibition (in)finite: spiritual conversations in cloth for the Anglican Foundation of Canada. Thomas holds a diploma in textile arts with distinction from Capilano College, and was featured in “Boys with Needles” at the Textile Museum of Canada and Museum London (Ontario). He was awarded the Order of the Diocese of New Westminster in 2016.
Thomas is currently the SDA representative for British Columbia and Yukon.
